2 Part-Time Fall/Winter/Spring Jobs in our Homeless Shelter Ministry 11 Sep

Description: The Grace & Peace Winter Shelter is a hospitality ministry of Grace & Peace Fellowship (PCA), now entering its 33rd winter of providing emergency, overnight shelter for up to 16 women nightly in our church basement, through the coldest winter months. We accomplish this work by the Lord’s great grace and with the work of several Overnight Staff who work once weekly several Coordinators, who work starting around mid-September, through March, and MANY volunteers who work at the Shelter and who provide food.

We are currently preparing for our 2017-2108 Winter season and are hiring for 2 part-time, seasonal paid positions. Both workers would become key people in our Ministry Team. The Volunteer Coordinator would need to be a person willing to become part of our church family, as we hope s/he will be able to serve for at least 2 winters. Both positions can provide for some of your Field Education requirements for your degree. It is helpful if persons in these roles are in town for most of Christmas Break, although we can certainly support and accommodate several days off if needed. (The Shelter operates every night, once opened for the winter, through mid-March.) More information is below. We are eager to hear from you!

Qualifications:
1) Our The Volunteer Coordinator needs to be an adult Christian who is part of our church family, and who would love to connect people with the roles they can do for the Shelter including overnight and evening volunteering roles. S/he is responsible to schedule and ensure the presence of overnight and evening volunteers nightly for the Grace & Peace Winter Shelter. Ideal candidates are excellent with written and verbal English language, with details, schedules, and talking with people by phone, as well as comfortable with electronic media, as we are going to use an online signup program this year. Experience in shelter, person-to-person urban ministry, small or large group training or volunteer support are all pluses. The Volunteer Coordinator would NOT be responsible for signing up Meal Providers, but would work somewhat closely with her and me and other Team Members. This is a very part-time job, usually 5-10 hours/week and pay is somewhat negotiable between $50-$200 per month, starting as soon as mid-September. The point at which the Volunteer Coordinator begins work greatly impacts when the Shelter is able to open to care for homeless women! (We hope to open in late November.)
2) Our Saturday night Overnight Staff person will be an adult Christian who has some urban experience and is available from 6 p.m. or so on Saturday evenings to 9:15 a.m. Sunday mornings. S/he does not need to be a member of Grace & Peace Fellowship, but would need references including a pastoral reference. Work includes welcoming guests, supervising volunteers, basic facility oversight, interaction and support of guests, some timely data entry. This work would not start until the Shelter opens, a few days after Thanksgiving, but some (paid) training is required before the Shelter season starts especially November 12, 2017.

Contact:
Anyone interested in applying for these positions is welcome to talk with me, by phone at 314-367-8959, x21, or email questions or your resume to graceandpeace1@sbcglobal.net. Thank you!

Aberdeen Senior Living 9 Aug

This is a job opportunity in a dining room of an independent senior living facility.

Your job is simply to be the waiter or waitress for up to 4-5 tables, serving their drinks (they bring their own alcohol if you may be wondering), appetizers, entree, and dessert and coffee. The end of the shift includes resetting the dining room for service the next day and some work to ensure the kitchen and dining room is clean. The job takes humility as some seniors can be quite the grump (these aren’t your sweet grandmas and grandpas, though they are there too). Some perks include free food (though you can’t take it home), free ice cream, and working around seniors (who love seminary students! There are some residents that are at Central!) They work really well with your schedule, including easy Sunday off request.

Simply go to this website, https://www.healthcaresource.com/aberdeenseniorliving/index.cfm , and search Dining Staff in the keyword box. Click on dining staff and start your application.

Hours: All the shifts start at 4 (or 4:30 depending on availability), and will go until about 8:30. Depending on availability, there’s a shift that starts at 1 which includes a variety of opening duties for the dining service. Sometimes we get out earlier depending on service, though one night most didn’t get out until 9.
