This full-time position will have two primary responsibilities along with other ministry duties as assigned by the East Gate Presbyterian Session.

The first primary responsibility is music/worship leadership. This responsibility will require that the candidate have musical gifts and capabilities including the ability to play a musical instrument. The Assistant Pastor will work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor to plan, lead and arrange worship service music and other music that will make up congregational worship.

The second primary responsibility of the Assistant Pastor is leadership of the East Gate Presbyterian youth ministry. These duties are outlined below:

The Assistant Pastor would also be responsible to coordinate similar relationship building for the young women in the group employing the female group leaders.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

A call to ministry is a call to lay down one’s life for Christ’s sheep (John 21:17). For this reason it is assumed and expected that a pastor will be willing to do many things that are not necessarily outlined in a job description. At the Session’s request the Assistant Pastor can expect to be called upon to perform the following duties as reasonable time will permit:

1. Preach in worship services as needed
2. Teach the Bible in various settings
3. Join the Senior Pastor and Ruling Elders in the ministry of visitation

What the Assistant Pastor Can Expect at East Gate Presbyterian Church

We believe the selected candidate will find East Gate Presbyterian Church a place where God is loved and honored. East Gate possesses a strong commitment to Scripture, the Reformed faith, evangelism and church family life.

While East Gate is primarily made up of a middle age to senior citizen demographic, those in this age group are very young at heart and the core group within this demographic works very hard for God. In recent years, God has granted us an increase of younger people and families. East Gate Church reaches a number of unsaved children and families through our youth group, Pioneer Club and summer beach service. Therefore, the Assistant Pastor can expect many opportunities to serve alongside a number of committed people from varied age groups.

One of East Gate Church’s graces is its loving and warm family nature. The selected candidate is sure to find a warm reception and a lot of love and kindness from the church family.

Director of Discipleship 2 Oct

Description:
Hope Community Church exists to bring people into a closer relationship with Jesus.
Position:
The Director of Discipleship’s role is to holistically analyze our discipleship paths to see where individuals and groups are in bringing people into a closer relationship with Jesus. They must be a dynamic leader who is passionate about discipleship. Based on experience and education consideration for title will occur. Either way, this person must have:
Character: Know what the right thing to do Biblically in a given situation
Charisma: Bring energy and enthusiasm to Hope and be a passionate follower of Jesus Christ
Competency: Have experience in leading individuals, discipleship groups (3-4 people) and large groups (30-40). They must have an idea of curriculum and curriculum development.
Chemistry: This person must get along with people from all age ranges, specifically children and youth. In terms of Gallup Strengths, they need a dash of “Woo” to be successful. They must have a sense of humor, and potentially be making fun of a job listing with so many C words in the requirements.
Calling: This trumps all other C’s as this person needs to be in their relationship with God knowing that God is calling them to such a position as this.
This person must have an ability to multi-task, dream big, and enjoy coming to work. They would be working Sundays with various discipleship opportunities at church. They would be encouraged to choose a service to worship in as possible (currently Hope has two Sunday services). In walking alongside this person if preaching is an option that they would like to pursue, limited opportunities could present in year 2 of this position. However, the focus is on discipleship.
This person also would have opportunities and be required to be able to work with mission groups that travel throughout the United States, Haiti, and the city of Lincoln through a variety of opportunities.
Structure:
This person will report to the Lead Pastor.
This person will have leadership capabilities to assess and co-create paid and unpaid volunteer teams who will report to them. They have creativity in thinking how these roles should be started and grow. For example, a compensated youth couple or director on Sundays or Wednesdays or a compensated Vacation Bible School director are potential roles. As Hope grows, further opportunities to build a team around this person would continue. The Senior Pastor would lead staff meetings and help co-manage these hires as they come about, but the potential for growth is unlimited with God’s provision and Hope’s growth.
There would be a flex-off day during the week (either a Monday or Friday) due to evening meetings and Sunday work. Breakdown for ministry follows:
40% Plan for curriculum, schedule volunteers, prepare classes.
30% Meet with individuals, small groups, classes, and teach classes on Sunday mornings and potentially Wednesday nights.
20% Work with Lead Pastor on Special Events and Missions.
10% All other duties.
As with other ministry jobs, this is a somewhat seasonal position. September-December and January through May are Hope’s larger classroom needs, and the summer months are spent more with missions.

Qualifications: Formal theological education from any denominational background is preferred, but not necessary. Hope is a member of the Reformed Church in America, see rca.org for more information.

Pay: Based on experience

Part-time, In-Home Child-Care 25 Oct

My wife and I are looking for a kind, conscientious, and fun part-time child-care provider to watch our two daughters Matilda (4) and Mabel (2).

A little about our family…
Matilda is a bright, creative, and fun-loving older sister. She is currently enrolled in pre-school at Wash U from 9:00-11:45a (M-F). She loves making elaborate “social art installations” with her stuffed animals and costumes.
Mabel is a verbal, boisterous, “sweet and sassy”, fun-loving little sister. She loves to snuggle and be chased. She is still in diapers and takes a daily nap from 1:30-3:30p(ish).
Jeremy is a covenant grad (M.Div ‘09) and former local pastor (The Journey) who is currently job-hunting; Megan is the associate creative director at a local graphic design firm.

A little about the job…
We are pretty flexible on several fronts. I will tell you our ideal situation, but most of this is negotiable based on your needs/availability.

1. We would prefer for you to come to our house (in University City near Wash U), but would be open to the girls going to your place (depending on its proximity to us).

2. We need child-care for two days per week starting in November and extending indefinitely. The daily schedule is 9:15am-5pm(ish). Precise week-days haven’t been determined yet, so we can work with your availability. Two days in a row would be ideal for the girls (less transition), but it’s not entirely necessary.

3. We paid our last sitter $60/day. That’s 9:15-5:00pm with Mabel and 11:45-5:00pm with Tilly (on account of her AM pre-school). We can discuss that compensation as well as food subsidies and pre-school pick-up routines (if applicable).

4. Our last two child-care providers have both had small children of their own and our girls loved that! So, if you’re a stay-at-home mom who wants to make some extra money during the day by watching two additional sweethearts, this could be a really good fit.

5. Response: If interested, please email Jeremy at jeremypirwin@gmail.com with a resume and/or childcare experience. We can set up a time for an interview or even a play-date.
